But it is not so simple as to merely blame the Communists for Poland's state of denial (of World War II atrocities and heroes)Curiously, it has been more than 10 years since democracy has returned to Poland and rescuers are still not publicly celebrated, because of another kind of occupation-our own shame. It is never easy to look at oneself in the mirror of history and see cowardice and barbarity. Those who were brave, those who acted with integrity and decency, hold up another mirror for all Poles to gave into.
