لكل داء دواء يستطاب به
الا الحماقه اعيت من يداويها
وإذا كانت النفوس كبارا
تعبت في مرادها الأجسام
إذا غدرت حسناء وفت بعهودها** فمن عهدها ألا يدوم لها عهد!
أبو الطيب المتنبيبغيرك راعياً عبِث الذئابُ
وغيرك صارما ثلِم الضِّرابُ
وَمَا كُلّ هَاوٍ للجَميلِ بفاعِلٍ وَلا كُلّ فَعّالٍ لَهُ بِمُتَمِّمِ
أبو الطيب المتنبيبغيرك راعياً عبِثَ الذئابُ
وغيرك صارماً ثلِم الضرابُ
Now this court will learn
that I am the greatest in wit and courage.
I am he whose writing the blind see
and whose words grant hearing to the deaf.
Content with complete verses, I sleep,
while others strain for simple rhymes.
I laughed at the frauds and their ignorance
until, with discerning hand and mouth, I destroy them.
If you see the lion bare his teeth,
do not assume he is smiling!
و حالات الزمان عليك شتى وحالك واحد في كل حال
أبو الطيب المتنبيلا تشتري العبد الا والعصا معه
ان العبيد لانجاس مناكيد
لا خَيْلَ عِندَكَ تُهْديهَا وَلا مالُ فَليُسْعِدِ النُّطْقُ إنْ لم تُسعِدِ الحالُ
