Ficamos como que hesitantes um instante à sua frente, e depois findamos por aceitá-lo tal como ele ficou, o rosto, com essa desarmonia crescente, abjeta, de todo o conjunto. Temos de dizer sim a essa cuidadosa e lenta caricatura burilada por dois anos. Aceitar o tempo, esse quadro de nós. Podemos então dizer que nos reconhecemos inteiramente (como uma nota de dinheiro estrangeira que hesitamos em pegar à primeira vista), que não nos enganamos de caminho, que de fato seguimos a verdadeira estrada, sem nos termos consertado, a infalível estrada durante mais dois anos, a estrada da podridão. E é só isso.
