1. God is (by definition) a being than which no greater being can be thought.

2. Greatness includes greatness of virtue.

3. Therefore, God is a being than which no being could be more virtuous.

4. But virtue involves overcoming pains and dangers.

5. Indeed, a being can only be properly said to be virtuous if it can suffer pain or be destroyed.

6. A God that can suffer pain or is destructible is not one than which no greater being can be thought.

7.For you can think of a greater being, that is, one that is nonsuffering and indestructible.

8. Therefore, God does not exist.

I, therefore, for one, cannot see my way to accepting the agnostic rules for truth-seeking, or wilfully agree to keep my willing nature out of the game. I cannot do so for this plain reason, that a rule of thinking which would absolutely prevent me from acknowledging certain kinds of truth if those kinds of truth were really there, would be an irrational rule.

Of course, when you shut off your brain from rational analysis, any book is dangerous. Taking literally ancient parables from thousands of years ago is much more dangerous than playing with a loaded gun. Ancient scrawls, written by different authors in different centuries with different agendas--yeah, let's get mad literal about that.

The literalness problem is compounded in religion by the circular logic of not being allowed to question anything, or else you're lacking faith.

Where is the pain when your pride is wounded? And why do we say that: wounded? There is no gash, no blood, not even a scratch. Which part of us hurts? The brain cells? The neurons? What, for goodness' sake, what?
